A man who stole over $14,000 from welfare over 16 months is sentenced to one year in jail after pleading guilty in Western Communities provincial court. Crown counsel Duncan Campbell tells court the father of five received $14,605.60 from the Ministry of Social Services during which time he worked as a truck driver. When he gets out of jail, Garry Harding will have to pay back the full amount he stole, Judge Brian McKenzie says.

Her family salvages what they can from the fire, which destroyed their split-level home on Happy Valley Road. Two bathrooms and a bedroom are the only rooms that remain intact. The fire appears to have started in a space separating the home and garage.
