Something as simple as taking a nice long bath is a task many take for granted. But itB次元官网网址檚 something some seniors simply arenB次元官网网址檛 capable of doing on their own or in their own homes for a number of reasons.
The West Shore Adult Day Program recently opened an updated community bathing room, a service organizers say is in high demand for West Shore residents.
B次元官网网址淚 have a wait list and itB次元官网网址檚 growing,B次元官网网址� said Katie Carswell, Island Health program co-ordinator for the West Shore Adult Day Program. B次元官网网址淲eB次元官网网址檙e not the only ones, thereB次元官网网址檚 a few other programs in Greater Victoria, but weB次元官网网址檙e the only one out here.B次元官网网址�
The bathing room is in use seven or eight times a day from Monday to Friday, with baths lasting roughly 50 to 60 minutes.
This $45,000 renovation was made possible by the Eldercare Foundation and its donors. The room was enlarged and reconfigured to make it easier for workers and clients and allow them to utilize the space more efficiently and safely.

The upgrade also included the addition of new safety flooring, fresh paint, a spa-like mural, ambient lighting, specialized bathing equipment and accessories. But the highlight is the tub B次元官网网址� and it isnB次元官网网址檛 something youB次元官网网址檇 find in the average bathroom. Carswell demonstrated how the unit can open for mobile clients that can sit on the edge. ThereB次元官网网址檚 also a lift with an extended track to allow clients with mobility issues more comfort while being assisted into the tub. Once a client is settled, the unit can tilt backwards for a more comfortable reclined position and also features jets.

The program operates at the Priory Hospital site, 567 Goldstream Ave., in Langford and is designed for people who cannot safely use the bathing facilities in their own home, even with the addition of safety devices. There is a small fee per use. Adult day services are available to seniors and people with disabilities in the region while providing socialization, community connection and therapeutic programming for clients while allowing their caregivers to rest. Some of the programs include day respite, health monitoring, therapeutic and recreational activities and bathing programs.
