Students from Eagle View Elementary in View Royal have used their artistic flair in a bid to remind drivers to reduce their speed in school zones.
"Please slow down, you could hit someone," says a poster by Grade 2 student Maya.
The posters have been used to create 'Think of me' cards, used by West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit to hand out to drivers as a reminder to be aware of their surroundings in school zones and slow down.
Alongside asking drivers to watch their speed, West Shore RCMP also recently reminded drivers to stop for school crossing guards.
When instructed, all vehicles must remain stopped until pedestrians have safely crossed and the school crossing guard has lowered their stop sign.
Failure to obey a school crossing guard may result in a $167 fine, under the Motor Vehicle Act, and three penalty points.
"Every school year we receive reports of vehicles not obeying school crossing guards. This is dangerous for both the crossing guards as well as the students and parents trying to cross the road safely. We are reminding motorists to follow the speed limit when entering a school zone and obey the school crossing guards directions," said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer, in a news release.
