A West Shore resident was recently honoured for his service to the community, having spent more than 20 years as an auxiliary constable with the West Shore RCMP.
Don Devenney received an RCMP Police Service Appreciation Award in recognition of his volunteer service, which started back in 1995 and has seen him amass roughly 8,000 hours.
In 2008, Aux. Const. Devenney was a rider in the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock fundraiser ride, representing the local detachment while contributing a tremendous amount of effort and personal time for this cause.
Const. Alex Berube, West Shore RCMP media relations officer, called Devenney a "very valuable asset" to the West Shore detachment and said the award represents the appreciation the RCMP and his peers have for him.
