Motocross is alive and well in Langford, as a new season of races kicks off and expansion comes to Westshore Motocross.

Sunday, May 26 will see the second race of the Victoria Championships come to the track (2207 Millstream Rd., behind Western Speedway). The first race attracted some 180 riders, and facility owner Jeff Evernden expects this second race will see around 120 riders of a variety of classes ripping dirt and vying for the lead.

Evernden said motocross in Langford is experiencing a boom, evidenced by business at the track and the companyB次元官网网址檚 expansion.

B次元官网网址淛ust like Langford has grown 30 per cent in the last few years, so has the business here and the amount of people coming through the doors.B次元官网网址

Tuesday night races kick off June 4 and will run through to the end of July. These smaller races are also open to spectators and run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with manly local racers of a variety of classes squaring off.

The track now offers the Learn to Ride program, a one-hour course on the basics of dirt bike riding for ages four and older, including adults.

Westshore Motocross has a fleet of about 30 bikes ranging from 50cc with training wheels to full size 250cc bikes for adults, and everything in between. Sessions cost about $30 to $50 and include instruction and all the necessary safety equipment.

B次元官网网址淚t gives parents a lot of reassurance that itB次元官网网址檚 handled very well, rather than sneaking onto a logging road somewhere,B次元官网网址 Evernden said. B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 just like swimming lessons, skating lessons, skiing lessons, itB次元官网网址檚 the exact same, itB次元官网网址檚 just a different sport.B次元官网网址

The building has expanded also, with new change rooms and a shop area. The operation is getting into servicing and selling parts.

The race this Sunday is free for spectators. Registration for riders begins at 8 a.m., with races set to start at 10:30 a.m. Local riders such as Ryan Lalonde, Daniel Vanderbash and Graham Scott will be riding as some of them they prepare for nationals the following weekend in Nanaimo.

The next stage of the Victoria Championships will be held on Aug. 11.
