Victoria families and caregivers who are coping with the impact of a diagnosis of AlzheimerB次元官网网址檚 disease have a new local resource.

The educational program Shaping the Journey: living with dementia is designed specifically for people experiencing the early symptoms of AlzheimerB次元官网网址檚 disease or a related dementia, and who have had a recent diagnosis. It also is intended for care partners, family members, or friends.

B次元官网网址淚t is for people who want to explore the journey ahead in a positive and supportive environment,B次元官网网址� says Emily Pridham, First Link co-ordinator for the non-profit Alzheimer Society of B.C.

B次元官网网址淓ducating yourself will allow you to gain an understanding of what you and your family members are faced with, giving you the skills and confidence to maintain quality of life, both now and in the future.B次元官网网址�

In six Tuesday sessions starting on Sept. 13 and running through Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., the program will cover: The Brain and Dementia; Hearing the Diagnosis; Maintaining Your General Health; Life After Diagnosis; Planning Ahead and Maintaining Your Spirit.

Another benefit of the program is that participants will meet others going through similar experiences.

Shaping the Journey: living with dementia takes place at Hillside Seniors Health Centre, 1454 Hillside Ave.
