Devine Distillery plans to close by the end of the year

The business is known for its award-winning spirits and partnerships with local farmers and growers

Customers of Devine Distillery will have one last chance to raise their glasses with the company's spirits as the multi-award-winning Saanichton business has announced it plans to close by the end of the year.

"It is with a heavy heart and many mixed emotions that we announce our intention to close," read the Instagram and website post.

"There was a number of factors that have led to this decision. Ultimately, we are a small family-owned and operated business and we've reached the point in time where closing operations is the decision that makes the most sense for our family moving forward."

Devine Distillery, which started in 2007, has made a name for itself with its spirits produced from local grapes, grain, fruit and honey. The distillery has no shortage of prestigious awards under its belt, including gold and category winners at the 2023 and 2024 World Whisky Awards, a gold with distinction award at the Canadian Artisan Spirits Competition in 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021, and best in class and gold with distinction awards at the Canadian Artisan Spirits Competition.

Hailed as a BԪַhidden gem on the Saanich PeninsulaBԪַ by a TripAdvisor reviewer, the Distillery was known for its spectacular view of Mount Baker and the Gulf Island. Though the tasting room was discontinued in 2020 due to being on a residential property and consistently over capacity, customers could still visit the location to learn about the products and purchase directly from the source.

"We are all extremely proud of both the spirits we produced and how we've conducted ourselves within our community and the industry as a whole," read the Instagram post. "We must also acknowledge and give thanks for the tremendous support and loyalty from you, our customers. Without you none of this incredible journey would have been possible."

The business also acknowledged its gratitude to the small team of "long-term and incredibly loyal staff who have poured their hearts and souls into this business".

The distillery will be selling spirits both online and in person until closing with a disclaimer: "Once a product is gone, it will sadly be gone for good...!"
