Former Chemainus Courier reporter Don Bodger, and his wife Theresa hosted their tribute to Theresa's mom Georgina Falt.
On Sept. 28 music lovers of all genres and decades piled into the Crofton Community Centre to support the 12th annual Alzheimer's fundraiser which the Bodgers first started in 2013 in honour of Falt, who lost her battle to the disease that currently has no cure.
This is the first year that the event was held at the Crofton Community Centre due to its increase in numbers, and popularity as it broke a new record with 22 teams ranging from eight to 10 players on average participating this year.
Teams with a variety of creative names put their heads together to come up with the correct music trivia responses in hopes of adding their names to the Georgina Falt Memorial Trophy.
This year's musical trivia mavens were Bucky's Brightest, as they tallied up a total of 3,065 points. In second place was Broken Records who received cool trophies made from old 45s that were completely intact. There were several swag bags filled to the brim with a myriad of goodies for the teams who placed with points ranging from 1,715 to 2,845 making everyone a winner.
The real points should be given to all the volunteers, and supporters who made the event a smashing success alongside founders Don and Theresa. There were plenty of raffle prizes, and volunteers worked hard to tally up points for the 10 rounds and two novelty rounds that made up the evening. What made the evening even more exciting was that the hope of raising $15,000 for the Alzheimer's Society was exceeded with a tally of $22,250.
With this year total and the support of the community, the Bodgers have now raised $130,197 for the Alzheimer's Society to date.
"This event has really accelerated with our move to Crofton," said Don. "We thought hitting over $19,000 last year was something, but now to raise over $22,000 this year with the extra space and more people is quite astounding."
