The U14 Warriors basketball club brought home the bronze medal at the provincial tournament at the Langley Events Centre.
The team has been successful all season, winning championships at the University of Victoria Future Starts tournament in November and the inaugural Vancouver Island University Mariners Tournament in December.
Warriors U14 coach, Jason Barron, said the team sets the tone with their defence and their full-court press. The Warriors also have a deep bench and have many contributors on the offensive end.
To get experience against bigger and stronger competition, the Warriors competed in a U15 B Division tournament in the Victoria and District Amateur Basketball AssociationB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Night League. It may just have been for experience, but the Warriors won their division against the older squads. Barron said it helped refine their skills, learn how to play under pressure, and develop confidence on the court.
Next up for the Warriors is a trip to Gonzaga University in June to participate in a basketball team camp. The Bulldogs coaches will run the team through drills in the mornings and the Warriors will play mini games against other camp teams in the afternoons.
The Warriors are fundraising for this event, including a golf tournament at Highland Pacific Golf Course in May. For more information on the golf tourney or how to donate email kgis.hp.golf@gmail.com.
