South Island teams dominated the Vancouver Island Championships last weekend at Oak Bay High School.

Coming into the AAAA tournament, which ran Feb. 21 to Feb. 23, the top three seeds on the south Island were Oak Bay High School, Belmont Secondary School and Claremont Secondary School. The competition finished with those three teams mimicking their division seeds.

Oak Bay beat Belmont 91 to 72 to claim their fifth straight title, while Claremont took home the bronze with a 73 to 47 win over Dover Bay Secondary School.

Oak BayB次元官网网址檚 trophy comes with a ticket to the BC High School Provincial Championships at the Langley Events Centre, March 6 to 9, while Claremont has the right to challenge Belmont for the IslandB次元官网网址檚 second seed.

Diego Maffia, Oak BayB次元官网网址檚 star guard, won tournament MVP. The best defensive player award went to BelmontB次元官网网址檚 Danny Song.

Song was also named a first team all-star, along with teammate Markus Madrovic. Oak BayB次元官网网址檚 Jaime Palamos Molins and Ewan Mackenzie joined them, accompanied by ClaremontB次元官网网址檚 Nik Babaeff to round out the squad.
