Rugby juniors, Belmont athletes shine at provincial tournaments

Belmont students enjoy high-level rugby experience

A half dozen Belmont secondary rugby players can reflect on a solid out-of-school season, after competing in provincial tournaments as members of South Vancouver Island representative teams.

Rahul Roy was part of the under-15 Tide boys side that took the silver medal at Burnaby Lake RFC. The Tide went undefeated through the first two days of competition before losing 13-7 to Vancouver North in the final on June 28.

The newly formed U16 Tide girls side, with BelmontB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Alexis Dunning in the lineup, earned bronze in their first attempt at the Provincial Rugby Championships (PRC).

The girls went 1-1, then won their final game 37-0 over North Island, for the bronze.

The South Island Tide girls will turn their attention to sevens play this weekend (July 10-11) at the Victoria International Youth 7s tournament at the University of Victoria.

The Tide U15 boys, who included BelmontB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Rhys Carhy, Julian Foggitt, Connor Klatt and Jordy Makela, wound up fifth overall by knocking off North Island in their final match.
