Royals slay dragon after a rough start

Victoria Royals earn first WHL win over Kamloops since relocating, 4-2 on Friday night

It took six tries, a freakish start followed by a gut-check effort, but the Victoria Royals have finally defeated the Kamloops Blazers the during the 2011-12 regular season.

Blazers rookie Tim Bozon sniped two goals in the first 15 seconds of the game, before the Royals settled down and responded with four straight to win 4-2 at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Friday.

Robin Soudek, Hayden Rintoul, Benny Walker and Brandon Magee scored for Victoria, with Logan Nelson and Jamie Crooks each grabbing two assists.

Both teams go again tonight (Jan. 28) with the Royals donning hot pink jerseys for Pink in the Rink breast cancer fundraiser.

Game time is 7:05 p.m.
