A chance of frost this week arrives just in time for the Royal Lepage Frostbite Men's Doubles Classic.

The Vernon Pickleball Association (VPA) hosts the tournament Saturday, March 15.

A total of 61 teams are competing in several divisions and age groups, starting at 8:30 a.m. with the finals set to wind up around 6 p.m.

"Divisions start at a 3.0 rating, which includes players that are newer to pickleball with some competing in their first tournament," said Christine Castrucow, VPA media. "The divisions go up to 5.0 which will have some of the top players in the province competing for gold."

Players come from up and down the Okanagan Valley, the Kootenays and the Lower Mainland to compete.

Spectators are welcome to watch the action at the club, located on Okanagan Landing Road at Marshall Fields.

Tournament director Richard Chambers is expecting excellent competition this weekend.

The club, which is home to 1,200 members, is also hosting the Okanagan Showdown March 29, a Canadian National Pickleball League preseason qualifier to identify new talent.

The annual Royal Lepage WomenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s tournament plays out on April 12, a mixed tournament on May 10 and the BC Pickleball Championships take place July 24-27.

Environment Canada has forecast a low of -4 degrees Celsius overnight Thursday.
