More than 40 minor hockey teams from all across the province and even parts of the United States gathered together to spend Remembrance Day weekend in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

The Remembrance Day Classic invited U13 and U11 teams to participate in the annual tournament from Nov. 7 to 11, with more than 115 games played throughout the long weekend.

Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association (RMMHA) tournament director Tania Sargent explained that the tournament was very well-attended and the association was able to raise a significant amount of money for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88 through poppy sales.

"A minute of silence was also observed on ice at 11 a.m. on Remembrance Day in all games," said Sargent.

A couple of local teams managed to snag medals, with the Ridge Meadows Rustlers A3 team even going undefeated.

The Remembrance Day Classic was the second of four major tournaments that the RMMHA hosts each year.

"RMMHA is looking forward to hosting our next tournaments," said Sargent.

The remaining two tournaments are the Winter Round Up in December and the Jim Linsday Memorial in January.
