Langford sprint car driver captures fourth Daffodil Cup title

Jeff Montgomery enjoys steady weekend of racing at Western Speedway

After finishing a close second in the main event Friday at Western Speedway, Jeff Montgomery left nothing on the track Saturday, taking round 2 and capturing his fourth Daffodil Cup title.

The Langford driver roared to victory in the 40-lap feature race for the NSRA winged sprint cars, after chalking up points with an earlier trophy dash win. His combined output for the two-night competition left him at the top of the points list.

Randy DuBois finished a couple of seconds back in the main, followed well back, in order, by Robbie Price and Matt Hein, who were in a dogfight to the end.

On Friday, DuBois found himself in good position to win the 30-lap main after a restart and led until hitting the wall off turn four with five laps to go. That allowed Price, who started the race in eighth spot, to shoot by and take the lead for good.

Montgomery finished about three seconds behind, followed by Darren Yates, DuBois and Kyle Vantreight.

Earlier on, Yates collected a win in the trophy dash, while heat race wins went to Price and Vantreight.

Other weekend highlights saw George Jenson capture both the Denny Rand Memorial race on Saturday and Ron Mayell Memorial on Friday in the Old-Time Racers; Ryan Orchard took the Roy Smith Memorial race and Dave Emmerson posted his first win of the season in the Wilroc non-winged sprint mains, and Brad Struck and Mike Meeres won the dwarf car mains.
