After finding success in Nova Scotia, a Langford highland dancer is taking her talents to old Scotia.

Isla Garde brought home nine medals, including four golds, and an aggregate trophy in the novice category at the 2023 ScotDance Canada Championship Series in Halifax, held from July 2 to 6.

The competition welcomed more than a thousand dancers from across Canada and abroad.

B次元官网网址淪heB次元官网网址檚 really excelled in a short period of time and initially we put her in because she loved to hop and jump around,B次元官网网址� said IslaB次元官网网址檚 mother, Su-Mei MacDonell Garde.

B次元官网网址漌e were just hoping for the best and she really took to it and practised on her own. When they announced the awards, I mean as a parent you always think and believe your kid is amazing, but it sort of reinforced just how far sheB次元官网网址檚 come and how hard sheB次元官网网址檚 worked.B次元官网网址�

Garde, 10, has been dancing since she was 6, although the COVID-19 pandemic precipitated a prancing pause.

B次元官网网址淪heB次元官网网址檚 a really hard worker, a fast worker and hard worker, and thatB次元官网网址檚 what it takes to excel at anything,B次元官网网址� said Kathy White, GardeB次元官网网址檚 coach.

White has been running Kathy WhiteB次元官网网址檚 Island Highland Dance Academy for more than 40 years out of her Duncan studio and five years in Langford, and is set to take a group of students from both studios to Scotland for a trip of sightseeing and dancing at competitions.

Isla and her mother are also going on the trip.

Garde says she hopes to continue dancing and one day become a judge at competitions.
