There was a logjam in second place in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League after Tuesday nightB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s play, and the Victoria Shamrocks were part of it.
Their 13-5 home win over the Nanaimo Timbermen on Tuesday at The Q Centre pushed their record to 12-6-1, same as the Delta Islanders and New Westminster Salmonbellies.
The Shamrocks dominated from the start against the T-Men, outshooting them 23-7 in the first period and jumping out to a 5-0 lead.
The Nanaimo squad arrived late for the game, after a motorcycle/vehicle crash on the Trans Canada Highway just south of Ladysmith stalled traffic for some time.
The scoring for the Shamrocks was spread fairly evenly through the forward lines, with McLean Chiquen leading the way with two goals and four assists.
Jake Cullen, who collected three goals on the night, and Matt Hamilton, with two, each finished with five points.
Other goals came from Nick Preston and Ryan Lewis with two apiece, and singles from Cole Pickup and Colin Bashford.
Alec Molander and Darren Wilson each scored twice for the Timbermen, who only managed to get one shot past Shamrocks goalie Charles Claxton through the first two periods.
With the game well in hand, Claxton, who stopped 24 of 25 shots, was rested for the third period, giving way to backup Liam Reid.
Delta is scheduled to take on the Langley Thunder tonight (July 2), while the Rocks next see action Saturday at The Q Centre against the Port Coquitlam Saints. Game time is 5 p.m.
