Juan de Fuca Skating club starts 2023 with medals

Figure skaters from the club have won medals in two major events so far

The Juan de Fuca Skating Club had a busy and successful weekend Feb. 3 to 5 as figure skaters in the under 13 and WomenB次元官网网址檚 Gold categories brought home a total of 17 medals.

The Vancouver Island Regional Championships, held in Nanaimo, saw the club field 40 skaters in all levels of competition from Star 1 to WomenB次元官网网址檚 Gold, and for the synchronized skating team, it was their second competition in three weeks, earning a silver medal in Nanaimo.

At the end of the event, the club had earned five gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals.

In a news release celebrating the successful weekend, the club also highlighted skater Madison Simoneau, who was invited to the Skate Canada Pre-Novice/Novice Challenge held in Saskatchewan in January. Simoneau, 17, was one of just six skaters invited to represent B.C. and Yukon.

The clubB次元官网网址檚 success in Nanaimo comes hot on the heels of their participation in the Mountain Regional Synchronized Skating Championships, held Jan. 20 to 22. As the only Vancouver Island teams at the provincial event, they earned silver in the Adult 3 category and gold in the youth Star 3 category.

The club is working to grow its synchro teams as Skate Canada grows the sportB次元官网网址檚 presence nation-wide, and anyone interested in joining either team, or the club in general, is encouraged to visit .
