JOCK TALK: Westshore menB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s rugby team returns to JDF this weekend

After last weekB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s exciting overtime win against the Sun, the Westshore Rebels open playoff action Saturday, Oct. 14 when they host the Rams at 7 p.m. at Westhills Stadium. Gates open at 6 p.m. for the Alumni Appreciation night with special alumni ticket pricing, reserved alumni seating and a photo at half-time. Enjoy food trucks, refreshments, prizes and more.

After a long roadtrip, the Victoria Grizzlies return home Wednesday, Oct. 18 to host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre. The week finishes the following Friday, Oct. 20 when they host the Coquitlam Express at 7 p.m. at the Q.

After heading to Campbell River tonight (Friday), the Westshore Wolves return to south Island ice Wednesday, Oct. 18 when they visit the Saanich Braves at 7:30 p.m. at Pearkes Arena. Back at The Q Centre Thursday, Oct. 19, the Wolves host the Kerry Park Islanders at 7 p.m.

From the rink to the pitch, Westshore menB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s rugby returns Saturday, Oct. 14 when WestshoreB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s WomenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Premier team hosts Nanaimo at 12:45 p.m. at Juan de Fuca. Come Sunday, Oct. 15, the U18 Westshore visits James Bay AA at 2:30 p.m.

It may be the offseason, but Fridays is again about the Shamrocks lacrosse. Game-worn jerseys from the ShamrocksB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ 68th season are available via online auction for the next seven weeks. Each Friday, bids will open on three jerseys through to the following Tuesday at 5 p.m. Learn more at victoriashamrocks.com or by calling 250-478-ROCK.

Recognizing October is the start of local food bank drives, the B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·˜Rocks will also give someone a chance to win Victoria-born Jesse KingB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s 2016 signed, game-worn jersey. For every donation of money or a non-perishable food item dropped off at the team store throughout the auction, fans will receive an entry to win.

Turning to the high school sports scene, Royal Bay heads to Braefoot Park Tuesday, Oct. 17 for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off against Reynolds.

In senior boys volleyball action, Royal Bay heads to Oak Bay High Thursday, Oct. 18 where theyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ll take on Oak Bay, Victor Brodeur and St. Michaels University School. Play opens at 6 p.m.

Belmont will also hit the volleyball court Thursday, playing Pacific Christian School, StellyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s and Edward Milne, with the host team still being determined at press time. Stay tuned to lowerislandschoolsports.ca for more information.

Come cheer on the Belmont Bulldogs varsity football team today (Friday, Oct. 13) when they host Seaquam at 4 p.m. at Goudy Field.

West Shore ball hockey fans can register for the 2018 Greater Victoria Minor Ball Hockey season beginning Nov. 1. The GVMBHA also hosts its annual general meeting Monday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Pearkes Rec CentreB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Lam Room.
