ItB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s a week of championships at Western Speedway starting with Championship Night on Saturday, Sept. 16. Winners will be crowned on this final night of the season for stock cars, mini stocks, Old Timers Racing Association, dwarf cars and Wilroc non-wing sprint cars, which will also compete for the Reg Midgley Memorial Trophy.
Looking ahead to next Saturday, Sept. 23, champions for demo cars and trucks, mini figure eights, bombers and claimers will also be crowned. Other events on the calendar that evening include a total destruction and fireworks to end the 2017 season. Go to for tickets and more information.
In West Shore hockey action, the Westshore Wolves start the week up Island, taking on Comox Valley tonight (Friday, Sept. 15). The Wolves return home on Wednesday, Sept. 20 to host the Campbell River Storm at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre. Come Thursday, Sept. 21, the Wolves head back on the road, but keep it local, taking on the Victoria Cougars at 7 p.m. at Archie Browning Arena.
The Victoria Grizzlies are on the road all week but look forward to an enthusiastic crowd upon their return for their home opener. On Sept. 29 the Grizzlies host Vernon at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre then are back at it Sept. 30, when they host Langley at 7 p.m.
Turning to football, the Westshore Rebels look to continue their winning ways Saturday, Sept. 16 when they host the Vancouver Island Raiders for a 7 p.m. start at Westhills Stadium.
Belmont enjoys pre-season football action on Friday, Sept. 22, hosting Vancouver College at 4 p.m. at Goudy Field.
Rugby continues this week with the Westshore Premier Reserve and Premier squads heading over the Malahat Saturday, Sept. 16 to face Nanaimo at 12:45 and 2:30 p.m. respectively at May Bennett Pioneer Park. Westshore 3 team is also on the road Sept. 16, but returns the following Saturday, Sept. 23, when they host the UVic Saxons.
For home rugby action, the Westshore Premier women welcome Capilano for a 12:45 p.m. match at Juan de Fuca pitch. Head to the park early to see the Div. 2 women face Capilano 2 at 11:15 a.m.
Juan de Fuca womenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s soccer returns in full force Saturday, Sept. 16 when Juan de Fuca FC hosts Prospect Lake at Layritz turf at 5 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 17, Juan de Fuca United plays the Saanich Fusion United at a time and location still being determined at press time.
