JOCK TALK: Senior girls rugby season finishes Friday

Lots of lacrosse and other action on the West Shore this weekend

ThereB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s still time to channel your inner goddess for this yearB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Goddess Run, with 10K and 5K courses starting and finishing at Westhills Stadium this Sunday, June 4. While online registration is closed, stop by the race expo and race package pick-up this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Westhills. The registration fee is $60.

In high school sports, the senior girlsB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ rugby season draws to a close today (Friday, June 2) with the final jamboree at Spectrum. Running from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., games start at 10:30 a.m. with awards at 2:30 p.m. Come out and support the end to a great season of hard-fought action from the Belmont girls.

High-performance lacrosse continues tonight, (Friday, June 2) when the Victoria Shamrocks welcome the Coquitlam Adanacs to The Q Centre for a 7:30 p.m start. Head back to The Q next Friday, June 16 when the B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·˜Rocks take on the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

In Saturday action, the Jr. Shamrocks host the Port Coquitlam Saints at 5 p.m. June 3 at The Q Centre while the Intermediate B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·˜Rocks host Burnaby on Saturday, June 3 at 1:30 p.m., also at The Q Centre.

Div. 1 cricket returns for the West Shore this weekend when Metchosin plays the Islanders at noon on Saturday, June 3 at the Metchosin pitch. Next weekend, on Sunday, June 11, Metchosin welcomes Oak Bay for a noon start.

In the Div. 2 mid-week league, Metchosin heads to Beacon Hill Park Monday, June 5 to take on the University squad at 6 p.m.

In regional high-performance baseball, neither the Victoria Premier Eagles nor the Premier Mariners baseball teams have home games this weekend, but their respective Junior Premier teams are set to entertain fans.

The Jr. Mariners open play against the North Shore Jr. Twins in a Saturday doubleheader at Henderson Park with games at 1 and 3:30 p.m.

With a four-game home weekend at Lambrick Park, the Jr. Eagles take on the White Rock Jr. Tritons in a Saturday, June 3 doubleheader with games at 12:05 and 2:35 p.m. On Sunday, June 4, the Jr. Eagles take their turn at the North Shore Jr. Twins, hosting them in a doubleheader at 12:05 and 2:35 p.m.

The two local squads next face each other Tuesday, June 6, when they square off at Lambrick for a 6 p.m. start.

West Shore golf fans can catch some of the best developing golf professionals from around the world at the 2017 Bayview Place CardTronics Open, at Uplands Golf Club in Oak Bay this week. Supporting the ChildrenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island, the event always brings out golf fans to line the fairways. Tickets are $10 for a day pass and $30 for a week pass. Inspiring the next generation, Uplands also hosts a youth golf clinic Sunday, June 4, in partnership with the University of Victoria Vikes. The $30 registration fee includes 90 minutes of clinic instruction with the Vikes golf team, alumni and PGA Tour golfers, plus two week-long passes to the Bayview Place CardTronics Open at Uplands, a hat, shirt, two Vikes golf balls, snacks and a photo.
