Colin Gall gives the lowdown on West Shore sports at home and away

The Westshore premier womenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s rugby team plays its last game of the regular season tomorrow (April 9), hosting the Castaway Wanderers at Juan de Fuca at 11:30 a.m.

With an eye to rugbyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s road to Rio, the Canada WomenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Sevens is coming up next weekend at Westhills Stadium. Be sure to get your tickets early as last yearB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s event sold out. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit canadasevens.com.

Turning to high school rugby, Royal Bay hosts Vic High at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, while on Thursday, April 14, Belmont heads to Reynolds for a 3:45 p.m. tilt and Royal Bay hosts Spectrum at 3:45 p.m.

On the soccer pitch, the Royal Bay AAA senior girlsB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ soccer team heads across town Tuesday, April 12 to take on St. Andrews at Reynolds Park. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. In junior girlsB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ soccer, the Belmont heads to Lochside field to take on Claremont at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14.

High school badminton continues Tuesday, April 12, when Belmont hosts Vic High at 3:45 p.m. On Thursday, April 14, Belmont is on the road at Pacific Christian School at 3:45 p.m.

While their season may be over, the Westshore Wolves look forward to fall with their spring camp, running Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 10 at The Q Centre. Come watch Westshore hockey hopefuls try to earn their spot on the team.

The top junior B hockey teams converge on the Archie Browning Sport Centre this week, as the WolvesB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ cross-town rivals the Victoria Cougars host the Cyclone Taylor Cup through April 10. The champions from the KIJHL, PJHL and the VIJHL, along with the IslandB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s second-place finishers, the Campbell River Storm, compete for the trophy and the chance to move on to the Keystone Cup.

On the diamond, Triangle Baseball hosts its opening ceremonies this Saturday, April 9 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Juan de Fuca fields.

Across town, the Victoria Eagles Premier team, which includes players from the West Shore, also opens the season Saturday. Following the opening ceremonies at 11 a.m., local baseball legend Bob Burrows will throw the first pitch, followed by a doubleheader against the Parksville Royals. The first game is at noon, with game two set to start at 2:30 p.m., both at Lambrick Park. The Eagles head to the Mainland Sunday for a double-header against the Abbotsford Cardinals.
