Intermediate Shamrocks grab a share of first place at 6-1

Pair of weekend B.C. league wins boost lacrosse team's record, junior 'Rocks lose two

The Victoria Shamrocks grabbed a share of top spot in the B.C. Intermediate A Lacrosse League by winning both games over the weekend.

The Shamrocks won on the road in Port Coquitlam on Sunday, beating the Saints 12-8 to move to 6-1 on the season, same as Langley and Coquitlam, while Delta also has a share of first at 6-3.

Details of the Sunday game were unavailable as of this posting, but on Saturday in Colwood, Caleb Kueber scored three times to lead the 'Rocks to a 14-10 win over Delta at The Q Centre.

The locals built a 7-0 lead but surrendered seven goals in the second as the Islanders pulled to within three at 10-7 entering the final frame.

Ben Preston and Gerrett Wicks chipped in a pair of goals each for the Shamrocks, with singles coming from Dawson Gordon, Jackson Boyd, Brian Robb, Jake Campbell, Josh Wilson and Thomas Vaesen, who added three assists.

Preston leads Victoria in points after seven games with 13 goals and 14 assists, tied at 27 with Kueber (12-15), followed by Boyd with eight goals and 13 helpers for 21 points.

Junior Shamrocks endure tough weekend

The junior A Shamrocks dropped a pair of games, 12-8 Sunday in Coquitlam and 13-10 to New Westminster at home on Saturday. Victoria fell to 2-4 on the season.

Both Shamrocks teams play this Saturday (May 21) at The Q Centre. The intermediates hit the floor against Richmond at 1:30 p.m., followed by the juniors against Langley at 5.
