An initiative to help make golf more inclusive will be offered at two Greater Victoria golf courses.
Cedar Hill Golf Course and Highland Pacific Golf Course have been chosen to administer the RBC Community Junior Golf initiative, which is a partnership with Golf Canada.
The courses will receive instructor training, lesson plans, equipment and financial support to operate at no cost to participants or the location.
The program is for those aged five to 18 and a total of 33 courses were selected in Canada.
PGA professional Tyler McKay is helping lead the initiative in B.C. and will help teach youth at participating courses.
B次元官网网址淚 feel like the free programming is huge,B次元官网网址 McKay said. B次元官网网址淲ith the current inflation rate, things like youth sports are just not an option for many families. This support from RBC is allowing more kids to come to the golf courses and be involved in sport with other kids. Kids and junior golf are essential for the future growth and sustainability of the game. I am a firm believer that if we get kids playing at young ages, they will have a higher chance of being golfers for life.B次元官网网址
The program is hoping to reach over 10,000 Canadian youth by the end of the year.
The courses will also be able to offer subsidized rounds of golf for $5 or less to young golfers.
