Former Bulldogs, Rebels win Vanier Cup

Vanier Cup has decidedly West Shore connection

Players with a West Shore connection added a Vanier Cup national university football title to their resumes Dec. 5 with the UBC Thunderbirds.

As time expired, former Westshore Rebel kicker Quinn van Gylswyk booted a 20-yard winning field goal B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ one of his four on the day B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ to give the T-Birds a 26-23 win over the University of Montreal Carabins in Quebec City. Van Gylswyk also hit from 45, 33 and 43 yards, as well as kicking two extra points.

First-year T-Birds, offensive lineman Tristan Forish and tight end Edgar Nelson, also shared in the victory after spending several years with the Belmont Bulldogs football program.

Ex-Rebels head coaches from years gone by, John Cardillicchia and Paul Orazietti, are also part of the UBC staff.
