The EMCS senior boys basketball squad has a busy couple of weeks ahead of them, as they close out the first half of their season.
Depending on if they win or lose, over the next two and a half weeks the boys will play 11 games, which began with a tournament at Victoria High School on the weekend.
The Wolverines lost all three games on the weekend, but coach Alex Wright said the last game against Belmont senior B was a tight match, with a final score of 72-66.
EMCS had to call up multiple junior boys to play in the tournament, as they were missing around six of their usual senior players.
B次元官网网址淚tB次元官网网址檚 tough to incorporate the junior boys in to a game when they havenB次元官网网址檛 practiced with the team at all,B次元官网网址 said Wright.
He hopes that in the games ahead, they will be back to their usual lineup.
Wright said a player to highlight from the weekend was Robby Lowerson, a Grade 12 guard.
B次元官网网址淗e scored 34 points in the last game, and won Player of the Game in two out of our three games,B次元官网网址 said Wright. B次元官网网址淗e did really well. For our tougher games especially, he was the one that could kind of get things going.B次元官网网址
Earlier this month, on Jan. 11 and 12, the Wolverines competed in a tournament in Port Hardy, where they placed sixth out of eight teams.
They played three games, but only won their second game 82-77 in overtime against the StellyB次元官网网址檚 Secondary School Stingers.
Wright said the Wolverines were behind by 14 points heading in to the fourth quarter against the Stingers, so it felt good to come out on top.
B次元官网网址淓verybody had a good time at the tournament, we stayed in Port Hardy for two nights, so it was also a good team-building weekend,B次元官网网址 said Wright.
Wright is looking forward to having everyone back together and healthy after having lots of players missing lately due to injuries, illness and vacation.
B次元官网网址淥ur goal is to have strong finishes to round out the season, and to hopefully advance to City and Island playoffs,B次元官网网址 Wright said.
Their next game is tonight at EMCS, starting at 7:30 p.m. against Esquimalt High School.
