Colwood-native Adam Cracknell to play with Montreal Canadiens

Team acquired the ringer winger from the New York Rangers last week

Former Colwood hockey player Adam Cracknell will need to brush up on his French skills this season.

On Thursday, the Montreal Canadiens announced the team acquired the 32-year-old forward from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Peter Holland. Cracknell will report to the Laval Rocket.

The six-foot-two, 218-pound right winger spent the majority of the 2017-18 season in the American Hockey League with the Hartford Wolfpack, where he registered two goals, three points, and six penalty minutes in 15 games. He also played four games with the Rangers this season, but was held pointless in those outings.

Cracknell, a former Saanich Braves junior B player, was drafted by the Calgary Flames in 2004, and saw his first NHL action at 25 with the St. Louis Blues. Since then he has bounced around the league, playing with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Vancouver Canucks, the Edmonton Oilers, the Dallas Stars, and most recently the Rangers.

The Montreal Canadiens are ninth in the eastern conference with a record of 13-12-3 in 28 games.
