Team earns first ever cup title

CanadaB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s menB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s rugby sevens team was in Langford this week showing off their new hardware.

The team won their first-ever cup title on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Singapore on April 16. To do so they beat New Zealand B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ for only the second time ever B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ in the quarter-finals, England in the semifinals and U.S.A. in the gold medal match.

Just five years ago, Canada was not a core part in the series, which consists of the top 12 countries. Rugby Canada credited the support theyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ve received from the City of Langford through partnerships, and the daily training environment at the Canadian Rugby Centre of Excellence, for aiding in their recent accomplishments.

CanadaB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s womenB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s team also won a tournament this year in Sydney, Australia.
