Parksville swimmer Nicholas Bennett earned Canada a silver medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
The 20-year-old member of the Qualicum Beach Breakers Swim Club, who also trains in Red Deer, Alta., finished second in the men's 200-metre freestyle S14 final in a time of one minute, 53.61 seconds. He lowered his Canadian record in the event.
It was also Canada's fifth medal at the Paris Games.
BritainB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s William Ellard set a world record of 1:51.30 seconds to take gold at La Defense Arena. Taking the bronze medal was Jack Ireland of Australia.
This was Bennett's second trip to the Paralympics, having competed in Tokyo where he finished sixth in the same race. He is the reigning world champion in the 200-metre freestyle.
