B.C. youth take Victoria 7s and Canadian Rugby Championship

Oak BayB次元官网网址檚 Fergus Hall continued his rise as a rugby sevens specialist over the weekend.

Hall, a Glenlyon Norfolk School grad and Castaway Wanderers junior, played for Team B.C., which won the U18 division of the Victoria International 7s tournament.

Hall scored a try and kicked four converts in the final, as B.C. defeated Ontario 38-10, one of seveal trophy matches held at UVicB次元官网网址檚 Centennial Stadium on Saturday.

ItB次元官网网址檚 the third-straight sevens tournament win for the U18 provincial team, which Hall is a part of, also winning the Las Vegas Youth Invitational in February and Hong Kong Youth International in March.

The Canadian Maple Leafs, a development squad for the national  team, won the elite division of the tourney, beating team B.C. 43-7 in the Cup Final. To get there, the Maple Leafs, edged U.S.A.B次元官网网址檚 development side, Altantis, 19-17 in the semifinals.

Home boy Michael Fuailefau of the UVic Vikes led the local contingent of the Maple Leafs, along with Castaway Wanderers imports Mozac Samson (Calgary) and Mike Mizerski (Toronto), and James Bay import Zac Coughlan (St. JohnB次元官网网址檚, NL).

The womenB次元官网网址檚 division saw Vancouver IslandB次元官网网址檚 U17 Tide smash the North Island side 42-0 in the final.

While B.C.B次元官网网址檚 youth menB次元官网网址檚 team won the sevens tourney, the provincial menB次元官网网址檚 15s team completed a sensational run at the U19 Canadian Rugby Championship in Edmonton.

B.C. went undefeated through four games, defeating the Prairie Wolfpack 30-0 in the fourth game on Sunday.

Victoria-based players with Team B.C. are Patrick Kay and Callum Busfield of the UVic Vikes, Mike Dalsin and Stephen Grdic of the Castaway Wanderers, Kieran Mcauley from the James Bay Athletic Association and Tua VaB次元官网网址檃 of the Velox Valhallians.

B.C. opened the campaign with a 41-17 win over the Eastern Ontario and Quebec, and a 55-0 shutout over the Atlantic. But it took a late surge to defeat Ontario on Saturday, as B.C. overcame a 24-12 deficit to win 31-24.

At the recent National WomenB次元官网网址檚 League championship, Ontario won 26-12 over B.C. in the final.  B.C. carried seven players from the Velox Valkyries; Amanda Campbell, Marlene Donaldson, Jessica Dovanne, Shannon Kane, Jesse Olynyk, Samantha Robb and Natalie Tam.
