The University of Victoria Vikes basketball teams are getting ready to host the 13th annual Shoot for the Cure game on Saturday night in support of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS).

The U SPORTS basketball community came together in 2007 to create a nation-wide Shoot for the Cure campaign, designed to raise awareness and funds for CCS and other related local and provincial charities. To date, the initiative has raised more than $1.3 million in donations.

Shoot for the Cure has now grown to include all 48 U SPORTS womenB次元官网网址檚 basketball programs, marking the ninth straight year of full participation.

U SPORTS schools will raise money through regular-season games, along with other special events. A cheque will be presented to CCS during the gold medal game of the 2020 U SPORTS Final 8 Basket Ball Championship, which is being hosted jointly by Carleton University and the University of Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group.

The Vikes will take on the Thompson River University WolfPack on Saturday, with tip-off is at 5 p.m. for the women and 7 p.m. for the men at the Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities.

A special presentation is also planned for halftime of the womenB次元官网网址檚 game on Saturday, as the Vikes will celebrate and honour the 2019 U SPORTS National Champion field hockey team by presenting them with the trophy and banner.
