More resources needed to investigate thoroughly

Writer wonders whether new councils will devote more funds to policing to protect the public

Re: (Our View, Dec. 12)

Certainly individuals should advise police of what they see, subject to fear of retribution because there is not enough policing support.

Even with information, investigation takes time. Police do not have enough resources to both detect errant individuals before they hurt someone and do full investigations. They have to prioritize their time to have the most effect.

The murder of Kimberley Proctor is an example of mentally troubled individuals not being curbed earlier, despite their evident illness. Even deliberately dangerous drivers present a risk of violence. Some of them will go on to commit robbery and assault B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ which have the same underlying motivation of exploiting others, whether for convenience, financial gain or psychological jollies.

The moral purpose of government is to protect individuals against initiation of force, not to entertain them. Will the new councils increase funding to police, instead of wasting taxpayersB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™ hard-earned money on things like LangfordB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s Fountain of Folly and the unsafe shrubbery near it?
