Re: Management, postiesB次元官网网址 pay needs to be adjusted (Letters, July 6)
I would like to provide Stefan Mieczkowski and anyone else with some facts about the possible Canada Post work lockout.
First there is a difference between a lockout and a strike. A lockout is like when you go home and all the doors are locked and you canB次元官网网址檛 get in. A strike is where you go home and your wife looks at you and says you know you can cook and clean for yourself as in, B次元官网网址淚B次元官网网址檓 on strike.B次元官网网址
Not one cent from taxes goes into my salary. In fact, if you want to get down to it, I cover some of your taxes. Canada Post is totally self funding and pays to the government a sizeable amount of the profits it makes each and every year.
In the last quarter, Canada Post made $41 million. Our CEO, Depak Chopra (not the doctor/author) makes over $500,000 a year plus bonuses. The 22 vice-presidents that Canada Post has also make a rather sizeable income. Myself? Well I made around $62,000 working out of the Station Avenue depot in Langford, but this year I had a lot of overtime.
Now as for anyone who wants a job at Canada Post, they are hiring. As for not being overworked, the reason Canada Post is hiring is that they canB次元官网网址檛 keep people, as once people get in to the Crown corporation they think they are on easy street. In fact, a lot of them quit shortly after their training ends B次元官网网址 some quit before their first week is over.
Anyone that thinks this is easy, please apply. And I hope that some now realize that you do not pay my salary. IB次元官网网址檓 getting really tired of hearing, B次元官网网址淚 pay your wage you know.B次元官网网址 If you bought almost $62,000 in stamps last year, all I can say is thank you.
