LETTER: Victoria donation for Taylor Swift tickets reveals flaw in tax system

A fair tax system is a much better way to pay for hospitals than relying on the wealthy to donate

I applaud the generous donation made to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation by the person who paid $260,000 for a suite at the Taylor Swift concert. However, the fact of the matter is that if the wealthiest 1% of Canadians paid income tax at the same rate as the rest of us do, there would be enough money to fully fund a top-tier health-care system in Canada and still have enough money left over to pay for every young Canadian to go to university or trade school if they so wished.

Ultimately a fair tax system is a much better way to pay for hospitals than relying on the wealthy to donate if and when they feel like it.
