Re: (Letters, Dec. 7)

I am writing in response to the recent letter to the editor penned by Mike Strong.

The intention behind the new highway wasnB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™t to exacerbate traffic but to enhance safety for those who commute daily through dangerous intersections. This notion was reinforced when I spoke with individuals recently moving to Sooke from the Greater Toronto Area. Their 45- to 60-minute commute in Victoria is comparatively more straightforward than the daily commute they encountered in Ontario.

Mr. Strong lives in a dream world if he believes people will willingly sacrifice their personal transportation for the environmentB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s sake.

The District of Sooke, the school board, and the Capital Regional District all play a part in this traffic failure. They need more ideas without money B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ the province and feds have the cash.

This traffic congestion has shifted from the Colwood Crawl to the Sooke Crawl.
