In my view, the Victoria BԪַ article on the Ukraine-Russian war reflects a one-sided analysis about a complex conflict based on selected views of Ukrainian refugees residing in the Greater Victoria area.
I have compassion towards all who suffer loss and painful destructive consequences of war. I do not, however, blindly accept the judgments of agenda-driven BԪַauthoritiesBԪַ who tell me who my enemies are and who are my friends. I look beyond their words and stories to assess their actions and deeds.
This article does not even acknowledge the complex historical ethnic and national grievances that give rise to sharp contradictions and conflicts such as those between Russia and Ukraine, or Israel and the Palestinian people.
As a Canadian, I believe our independence and sovereignty as a nation as much as our security and well-being are founded on the principles of peace and non-interference in othersBԪַ affairs. As such, I believe we should withdraw from all military alliances such as NATO, NORAD and the Five Eyes Intelligence Group.
People want peace. Yet often we are told to rally under a flag and join in deadly political games to satisfy the insatiable power-hungry economic and political objectives of domestic and foreign interests.
Our first priority is to meet the needs of our own land and people. Ensure that we donBԪַt become a tool in the hands of self-serving powers and their predatory aims to take the riches of others and the lives of people deemed of no value.
We must not allocate billions more taxpayer dollars to support war in Ukraine or anywhere else. We must say no to our government putting BԪַCanadian boots on the groundBԪַ in foreign lands.
We have no business threatening anyone under the false flag of strengthening BԪַnational securityBԪַ, or defending BԪַdemocracyBԪַ. To live in fear or be complacent about real problems is not the way forward.
There is no easy road to genuine independence and freedom. It requires courage to face reality with all its ambiguity and uncertainty, as much as a willingness to work through difficulties without relying on others to do it for us.
