LETTER: Saanich shouldn't put the lanes ahead of the bus on McKenzie

BC Transit isn't able to staff sufficient service along McKenzie to justify more bus lanes

Re: the letter 'Saanich should move quickly to allocate more lanes for buses. While the writer's comment that bus service will result in "traffic evaporation"  is possible, the fact remains that, unless BC Transit commits to B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ and is able to staff B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ sufficiently frequent and reliable service along the necessary existing and new routes required on McKenzie, traffic will not "evaporate".

I have been making this point for some time, and it applies to all such proposals.  Saanich has given no indication that BC Transit has planned for, and can deliver on, the necessary increase in bus service B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ and we know that it has difficulty in recruiting for existing staffing needs. Until we get that assurance and advance implementation, nothing should change on McKenzie B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ or elsewhere.
