While I understand Mr.GeeB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s actions at the Jan. 13 North Saanich council meeting would be seen as a breach of protocol, it is hard to ignore his common-sense response to what is being proposed by this mayor and council to address the pickleball court issue.
It is irresponsible to consider spending $900,000 B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ likely over $1 million when done B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ to build a new park in close proximity to residential buildings in the middle of one of the last remaining serene urban parks in the area. It just relocates the problem at great taxpayer expense.
Clearly, the mayor and council have never walked through this property which the Mary Winspear Society has maintained for all residents of the area to enjoy for years. More to the point, the mayor and council have not made any attempt to mitigate the noise issues at the Wain Road courts which as I recall was going to cost something in the order of $32,000.
If, and that is a big if, new courts are determined to be needed, let's use our heads and put them where people do not live. Put them in an industrial park or perhaps the Sandown lands.
This is yet another example of common sense not being all that common, and particularly lacking when it comes to government work. Blue Heron Park as a site for pickleball? That is truly insane.
