Contrary to F.M. Hogan's claim in a letter published on Feb 26, I haven't heard any Americans latching on to Pierre Poilievre's claim that "Canada is broken," much less using it to justify American territorial expansion to engulf Canada.

Neither have I heard any American commentators refer to Pierre Poilievre. I doubt they even know who he is, although they are very familiar with Justin Trudeau. The writer trots out the usual insinuations that Conservatives are racist and prejudiced.

The letter concludes with an incomprehensible comment about how Conservatives should clearly state that they do not want an informed citizenry. Citizens are responsible for their own education. The writer's ire should be directed at fellow citizens B´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·“ the ones who are too lazy to do their own research.

Had the writer done some research, they would know that Poilievre is married to a Canadian-raised immigrant from a different culture. They would have learned that Poilievre was more forceful than Trudeau in pushing back at the American threat with a detailed strategy. The plan would direct any money received explicitly to groups such as Indigenous populations to improve their access to clean drinking water among other things.
