LETTER: Parts of octopus dumped along Saanich beach

Two days ago, I was at the beach at Craigflower Koapsum Park. Someone had dumped a large amount of dead fish, parts of an octopus and a clump of organs such as heart and lungs along the waterline. This is where people walk and just down from the frequently used playground.

I called the Saanich Parks department and they said they would pass this on to the department. I voiced my concern that not only were these dead animals, but it could also be tainted, and dangerous to children, dogs and any wild animal that may eat this.

The next day, there was less, but it was still there and I called again. The receptionist said that they preferred to "let nature take its course". I said again I was concerned about children, dogs and wildlife as this could be tainted. Would they prefer a bunch of seagulls to die because no one cared to dispose of this responsibly? She said it was on their list.

Really, how long would it take to send one person down there to pick that up? This shows how your tax dollars are being wasted.
