LETTER: Oak Bay should be allowed to make its own housing decisions

Municipal officials usually live and work in their communities and are therefore in a much better position to determine local zoning matters

Perhaps comrade Kahlon should take a few minutes to review the results of the last provincial election before lowering the boom on any of our province's locally elected governments who arenB次元官网网址檛 in full agreement or marching fast enough towards his plans for forced densification.

People used to have the right to live in communities where locally elected governments determined what would or would not be built. While Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon and the rest of his NDP counterparts seem to think Big Brother knows best when it comes to local land use decision-making, I for one disagree. Municipally elected government officials usually live and work in their own communities and are therefore in a much better position to determine local zoning matters.

Big Brother said that he got the message following the last provincial election but clearly respecting the long-standing autonomy that locally elected governments used to enjoy must have been missed. Maybe if the B.C. NDP spent less time raising their salaries and a little more time working on the problems which fall within their jurisdiction, we would all be better off.
