LETTER: Government's priority should be the public, not politicians

It seems the top priority for B.C. Premier David Eby is to give an extra $2 million to the ministers in his cabinet.

Premier David Eby, with the government caucus behind him, talked to the media Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024.

It seems the top priority for B.C. Premier David Eby is to give an extra $2 million to the ministers in his cabinet. All 47 NDP MLAs, along with their opposition counterparts, earn a base salary of almost $120,000, with ministers receiving an additional $60,000, ministers of state an extra $42,000 and parliamentary secretaries an $18,000 boost.

As a retiree, I bring home $22,000 a year. The question remains: what are the priorities? The retirees are the people who worked hard to establish the system. Ask the average person where the money should go.

We have been told by the media that 74% of people in British Columbia disagree with this decision. Is anyone listening to us?

Ordinary citizens should have some control over this. Let this be a democratic system, where the people are in charge of their own money and how it is spent.
