LETTER: Fort Street bike lane impedes traffic

web1_lettersred_blackc

I wonder who designed the bike lane on Fort Street at the corner of Foul Bay.

On Fort, in front of Save-On-Foods, there were at one time three car lanes: a dedicated left turn lane and two others going straight. One of those two allowed right turns. But that lane is gone, replaced by a bike lane.

If you want to go straight the former centre lane exists but if you want to turn right from that same lane and canB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™t because of mostly high school students crossing at that intersection you will be holding up all the vehicles behind you!

Bike lanes serve a purpose but impeding the flow of traffic is not one of them. Idling vehicles and air pollution is not one of these purposes either!
