LETTER: Death of Smokey the cat reveals dangers of outdoor life

Smokey was a beloved fixture around Oak Bay and a regular visitor to shops along Oak Bay Avenue
2-napping
Smokey the cat died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

Smokey's untimely death underscores the need for cat owners to keep their pets inside if at all possible.

I used to let my cats go outside; not anymore. There are too many threats: cars, deer, dogs, raccoons, other cats, hawks, owls, mean people. Any cat owner who lets their pet go outside has to accept the possibility that they may not see their animal again. That can be very traumatic to the owners, more so if children are involved.
