On Friday morning, May 22 at about 8:30 a.m., I had an accident on my bike just off Kelly Road, almost in front of the Oak Bay Bikes shop in the West Shore Town Centre.
My front wheel went flat and, it seems, the tire jammed the brakes on, and I went over the handlebars and face first onto the pavement. A number of good-hearted people stopped and helped me with blankets and first aid and someone called an ambulance.
Someone from mall security took my bike for safe keeping and my daughter and her husband picked it up on Saturday evening and found that someone, evidently Oak Bay Bikes, had fixed the front wheel for me.
The paramedics put me into the ambulance and transported me to Victoria General Hospital, where I was diagnosed with a fractured humerus and many bumps and bruises. Surgery took place on Monday morning and I am now healing.
One part of the experience that caused me to smile was that someone speaking to the ambulance people on the phone, in answer to a question, remarked that I looked to be about in my mid-sixties. I am 77.
Thanks for the compliment, and thank you from my heart to all those who were there and helped. You were Good Samaritans.
