I can fully appreciate how Linda Grantham feels.
I was a crossing guard at Eagle View elementary on Watkiss Way for a number of years and experienced exactly the same types of drivers mentioned in the article.
Every morning, in spite of the heavy building and road construction going on in the area, it was BԪַpar for the courseBԪַ for a number of drivers to go through a red light or speed through the marked school zone. On many occasions when I waved my arm in a BԪַslow downBԪַ motion, I experienced not only rude gestures but crude language hurled out the window that was not fit for little ears waiting to cross the street to hear.
What I find most disturbing is that many of these drivers are very likely parents or grandparents who would be the first to scream if their children or grandchildren were involved in an incident at a crosswalk.
Every driver who drives through a school zone or crosswalk light in the morning needs to remember just one thing: you are setting an example for a future generation of drivers waiting at the crosswalk. Their legs are still short and their toes donBԪַt touch the gas pedal yet, but trust me, they notice everything.
You reap what you sowBԪַ
