Re: Feminism gone too far in Canada (Comment, Feb. 4)
I donBԪַt know where your so-called reporter got her qualifications, but I have seldom read such a hodge-podge of utter nonsense as that written by Erin Cardone.
She constantly repeats the statement that feminism and womenBԪַs rights have gone too far but produces nothing to back up such bald claims. She seems to think women come off the big winners in divorce cases. Tell that to the single largest group of people living in poverty in Canada: single mothers with children. Instead of raking in huge alimony cheques, many divored women have to fight for their basic court-mandated child support payments.
And excuse me for being mystified, but how does having more people in the Canadian workforce increase the cost of living accordingly?
I always have to shake my head when I hear young women such as Ms. Cardone complaining about feminism and womenBԪַs rights without taking a hard, honest look at the situation for women in the real world. How Ms. Cardone feels womenBԪַs rights are a negative influence on her BԪַsuccessful, over-stretchedBԪַ life is never made clear.
What is clear to me is the case of the unfortunate young woman in Winnipeg recently, whose rapist was let go because the judge felt the woman had invited her sexual assault by wearing a miniskirt and a tube top. That was a clear case of discrimination against women, the reason for which we have feminism and the struggle for womenBԪַ rights.
