Here are this weekBԪַs thank yous and gripes about happenings in and around our West Shore community:
BOUQUET: Thank you to the young woman who found my relativeBԪַs wallet, Nov, 1 on Goldstream Avenue near Langford Lake. You took the time to deliver it to our door that same day. Glen says thank you so much.
BEEF: Just received a letter telling me Coast Capital Savings will be closing their branch by this time next year, and all customer accounts will be transferred to the Admirals Road branch. This makes no sense to me.
BOUQUETS: to the bakers at Quality Foods for the best whole wheat kaiser buns, and the bakers at Save On Foods for the best cinnamon buns (with cream cheese icing of course). Also a bouquet to cashier Amellia at Shoppers Drug Mart for her sunny personality and making all customers feel welcome.
BOUQUET: I would like to send a big bouquet to Rick Stiebel of the Goldstream Gazette. Rick wrote a very inspiring article in the Best of the West Shore. I read it over and over and I thought, wow Rick you have such a way with words. Thank you Rick, you are an inspiration.
A BIG BOUQUET: to all our past and present veterans throughout the West Shore, Greater Victoria, Sooke and Canada. We will remember!
BOUQUET: to the family that has put on the BԪַHouse of HorrorsBԪַ on Metchosin Road on Halloween for the past nine years. Your spooky displays and live actors in costumes were amazing and got a few screams from my family. What a fun way to spend the Halloween weekend. Thanks for all your hard work putting this fun event on for the community.
BOUQUET: Thank you Langford Legion and all the volunteers who are out in our community with poppies. My family all have their poppies displayed loud and proud. Lest we forget, looking forward to our ceremonies and a time to reflect.
A BIG BOUQUET: to Fred Seeley who was shown on the front page of the Gazette last issue. Thank you for your service. Your hope that our generation will learn lessons and remember the sacrifice will stay with me. I will keep your story close and I will share yours and many others with family and friends so we can continue to pass your stories down through many more generations. Thank you again for your service.
A BOUQUET: isnBԪַt enough to express how much I admire Annie Taal (Goldstream Gazette Nov 3). Although she had an allergic reaction to the COVID-19 vaccination, she sought a way to receive her second dose without reaction. She also participates in a study of people who have an allergic reaction and speaks out about the importance of getting vaccinated in hopes of helping others feel safe. Many bouquets to you Annie!
BEEF: to whoever designed the intersection at the corner of Latoria and Metchosin Road near Royal Bay Secondary School. What a mess. There is no turning lane on to Latoria and no light to manage the traffic turning on Metchosin. Traffic is always backed up waiting for drivers to turn left. It is so scary watching the new drivers from the high school feel pressured to zip out, often unsafely, onto Metchosin Road. In a neighbourhood that is growing exponentially, with heavy traffic from the biggest high school on the Island, youBԪַd think they would have taken some time to design an intersection that is not only efficient, but more importantly safe. What will have to happen before something as simple as a traffic light is installed?
BOUQUET: To the hard-working people at the recycling depot. They are always helpful and friendly even when working in rainy, grey days. I hope they know how much we appreciate them and what they do for us.
BEEF: To the people who complain about high grocery prices yet continue to shop at the stores that have an average 15-20 per cent markup.
BEEF: Why is it taking so long for the construction to end on Sooke Road and Happy Valley Road. I understand the new apartment buildings that went up have a new throughway there BԪַ but OMG, hurry up already!
BOUQUET: To the cheerful first responders, the nurses, technicians and doctors in the West Shore and VGH. My family appreciated all the staff who were very kind and professional.
BOUQUET: To the many teachers in our community, especially those in high-needs schools. They work very hard in difficult circumstances, with far too few resources to make a difference. They donBԪַt get the credit they deserve.
BOUQUET: To all the staff at the Tim Hortons on Island Highway. I have to say one of the fastest, most cheerful drive-thrus to get my coffee every morning. Thanks for staying so positive and doing such a great job!
BOUQUET: To Western Motor Sports racetrack staff, management and fans. What a great facility and entertainment venue. I was sad to learn that next year will be your last year in Langford. Just wanted to say our family will miss the option for good old-fashioned entertainment. Looking forward to a reopening somewhereBԪַsomeday. Fingers crossed.
