Jan. 3, 1947-April 21, 2011
It is with profound sadness that we say good-bye to Peggy Jean Mitchell, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, colleague and friend. She leaves behind Mitch, her loving husband and soul-mate of 38 years, and the family she held close to her heart, children, Lou-Ann, Larry, Lanny and wife Betty, Olisha and J.P., grandchildren, Jeremy, Kelsey, Cheyenne, Shaylnn, Riley and Zoe.
Growing up in London, Ontario, she was never afraid of new frontiers. PeggyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s adventurous spirit and determination welcomed a move to the west with Mitch and the kids in tow. In her forties she completed a degree in nursing, and only recently left a very respectable career in registered nursing. She will always be remembered for her big heart and open home to which she welcomed too many to count. She was an advocate for the under privileged, especially young children, anyone who needed some of the special TLC that was her trademark. Peggy also had a love and soul connection with animals, particularly the many dogs who found their way into her heart and her home. Peggy was a passionate supporter of the SPCA.
Peggy suffered for two years with undiagnosed ill health, then fought valiantly for two months waiting for a liver transplant. We appreciate so much the gentle care of the nurses and doctors at both Vancouver and Victoria General Hospitals, and the ICU doctors and nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
Peggy will be fondly remembered on Saturday, April 30 at 2:30 pm at Sands Funeral Chapel in Colwood, at 317 Goldstream Ave. Immediately after, there will be a celebration of PeggyB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™s life at the family home, 1582 OB´ÎÔª¹ÙÍøÍøÖ·™Neil in Sooke. Please bring a plant or a flower to plant in her beloved garden where she used to sit in the sun and listen to the birds sing. It will now be the garden of her memory. We celebrate her life and rejoice that Peggy is now fully alive, dancing and free.
