March 17, 1935 - January 2, 2025
In Loving Memory ~
It is breaking our hearts to have to tell everyone about the passing to Heaven of Glenda Mae Graham on the morning of January 2, 2025 at VGH with her loved ones holding her hands. Glenda was born March 17th 1935 in Assiniboia Saskatchewan as the youngest child of Alexander Johnston and Martha Poirier. Because her father was a policeman, they moved frequently while she was growing up and met life time friends in the process. Glenda was always amazed when she stated she moved 47 times.
When she was 20 she married Wilfred Gagnon and thrilled beyond all words, that she was rewarded with two beautiful children. Garry John and Renee Melody. More than anything she loved being a Mom and a Grandmother.
To her regret, the marriage didn't last and 6 years after the divorce she married her nieces father in law, Lloyd Graham. He treated her really well, and they were happy together. Sadly after five years of marriage Lloyd passed away. Glenda then winked and said that she decided she was going to wait for her cowboy to come over the horizon.
20 years later along came Donovan Nixon, who didn't come on a horse but on a plane as he was a fighter/ bomber pilot in WWII. They met at their senior residence Cherish, over their shared love of art and fell in love. This was the first time you could see love on Glenda's face. They truly adored each other!
Glenda had this special gift, that as soon as you were in her presence, she made you feel as if you were the most amazing person to walk this earth, very treasured. Her personality was infectious and genuine. If you knew her you loved her.
Glenda loved children and would stop and talk with any child or baby that passed by her. To her they were a gift from God. She valued all of her friendships she cultivated over the years and really enjoyed teaching us all how to paint.
Glenda lived her life to the fullest with family, friendships; faith and art being the most important to her. Glenda painted until a few years ago when her tremors made it really difficult to hold a brush. Did that stop her?? No, she looked at other options, using spoons, Q-tips, or pour painting.
Missing her with broken hearts is her children Garry and his wife Michelle, and their son Colin; Renee and her wife Heather and their children Fearon and Megan along with their mother Michelle; her step daughter Marnie and her children Katie and Julie and their families, and her step son Ken and niece Marlene and their children Brandi, Stacie, Ashley and Tammy. Her sister in law, Lillian Johnston. As well as many other nieces and nephews.
Also the love of her life Donovan Nixon and his children Michael, Karen and Donovan Jr. and their families. Friends for life are Eleanor Beam, Heather Fraser, Dona Lewchuk, Brie Blondeau and Amanda Scott.
She was predeceased by her parents Alex and Martha Johnston, her brothers, Buck, Jim, Allen, and Adalard, her sisters Florence, Irene, Mabel and Mildred and many nieces and nephews as well as her step son Ron Graham.
The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cherish, and the staff at VGH during her stay there, as well as the paramedic's for their wonderful care. Glenda's Celebration will be held in mid-March, details to follow.
